Preservice Teaching

In my preservice art teaching experience, I've had the incredible opportunity to delve into the world of curriculum design, lesson planning, and creating supportive art classroom experiences. Through hands-on experience and mentorship, I've developed engaging and innovative lesson plans tailored to nurture creativity and critical thinking in my students. My journey in preservice teaching has equipped me with the skills and passion to inspire a diverse next generation of artists and learners.

7 Week High School Curriculum

Art Foundations (9-12 Grade)

Unit: Class Magazine

In this unit designed for a high school Art Foundations course, students will design a class magazine that includes editor rooms, a mini-lesson project covering beginning materials and the elements of art, an individual artwork submission, and an independent project to be featured in the magazine.

Project 1: Choose Your Own Material Adventure

In this Choose Your Own Adventure inspired lesson, students will work in groups to develop a specialized knowledge of beginning art mediums and elements of art before they present and share their findings and acquired skills with the class.

Project 2: Individual Submission

In this individual project, students will put their newfound mediums and elements of art knowledge to practice in the creation of an artwork that displays at least three elements of art and connects to the Class Magazine theme.

Project 3: Independent Assignment

In this individual or group project, students will work to create a special feature for the Class Magazine that could include a games section, featured artist article, school exposé, or comic strip potentially.

Collaborative Mural Project

In this project, students will explore the use of murals throughout their community and history before creating their own collaborative mural using basic tools in Adobe Illustrator and the collaborative online platform, FigJam.

Unit: I’m in Charge of My Own Story!

An art unit designed to inspire early elementary students of their own agency in their lives and stories that involves elements of portraiture, collages, group murals, zine-making, storytelling, and more!

Me, Myself, and I

In this project, students will explore the different aspects of storytelling and learn how to create their own 'zines' to tell the story of their lives.

Changing the Story

In this project, students will explore the elements of storytelling further through the methods of character building and perspective and will learn how to edit existing imagery to change meaning through a hero and villain themed mixed media collage.

In this project, students will explore the memories they have made at school and how lived experiences and stories create connections to spaces in creating a collaborative Stratton Memory Mural.

In this project, students will explore the stories from their communities and culture, using self-portraiture to share their favorite parts of their life and where they live.

Inspirations, Traits & Shapes

In this project, students will explore their personal beliefs in themselves and envision their future by creating a memorial collage of someone they honor in their community.

Throughout this two week curriculum unit centering on comic creation and printmaking, students are immersed in projects that explore the concepts of zine art, risographs, cyanotypes, and relief printing.
